Since June 2005 the area of the Institute for Rural Development’s expertise has extended to environmental activities. A relevant project is being implemented with financial support of the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) with the purpose to upgrade water supply and disposal systems in rural areas and improve ecological status of small rivers.
The project envisages development and dissemination of cost effective and environmentally friendly methods to improve the system of drinking water supply and purification of small rivers forming drinking water reserves in rural areas.
The project outputs will be:
- practical results in organization of quality drinking water supply to rural dwellers in the village of Velykoploske in Odesa oblast and purification of the Fursa river in Bila Tserkva rayon in Kyiv oblast, and
- dissemination of field-proven water supply and small river purification approaches to interested communities in Ukraine.
