On 31 March 2005, Round Table “Will Ukraine Become a WTO Member?” took place in Odesa. The event was organized by the Institute for Rural Development in association with the Center for Ukrainian Reform Education.
Around 30 oblast and rayon media representatives from Odesa and Mykolayiv oblasts attended the round table.
Presentations on the perspectives of Ukraine’s accession to WTO were made by Vasyl Kalinchuk, People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Serhiy Lakhno, Deputy Head of Multilateral Negotiations Unit, WTO Cooperation Department at the Ministry of Economy and European Integration, Svitlana Taran, Economic Analyst, Ukrainian International Integration Centre, Tamara Podvysotska, Odesa Team Leader, Ukraine Rural Livelihoods Programme, and others.
Svitlana Prokopenko, Director of the Institute for Rural Development, made a presentation “What is WTO Green Box. Neutralizing Risks for Rural Population: WTO Green Box Models”. The Institute’s Economic Expert Tamara Ostashko presented her analytical paper “WTO Accession: Advantages and Risks for Ukrainian Agriculture and Rural Population”.
