13 December 2005, a Round Table “ Urgent issues and replicable models of rural small business development as a mechanism to overcome unemployment and generate income for the rural population” took place in the Luhansk Oblast State Administration Offices.
The Round Table participants were representatives from the State Entrepreneurship Committee, Oblast State Administration, and Agency for Entrepreneurship Development as well as experts from the Institute for Rural Development, local NGO leaders, business owners.
The status of rural entrepreneurship in Luhanck oblast was analyzed by local officials while local entrepreneurs outlined main constraints to business initiatives’ development.
Rural business models, such as credit unions, rural tourism, service co-operatives, and marketing chains, presented by the Institute for Rural Development experts were a highlight of the event. The models can give an impetus to the development of entrepreneurship in the villages of Luhansk oblast and provide an efficient income source for the rural dwellers.
