17 February, within the framework of dissemination of successful pilot water supply and sanitation activities conducted in Odesa and Kyiv oblasts under the Replicable Methods of Improvement of Rural Water Supplies and Sanitation Project a round table took place in the house of the Luhansk Oblast State Administration.
It was attended by local officials, experts, scientists, representatives from Luhansk rayon advisory service offices, and journalists. Experts from Kyiv and Odesa oblast advisory services Mykola Hrytsenko and Yevhen Melnyk presented their achievements.
Opening the event, Ruslan Markov, Head of Slobidskiy Rural Development, NGO, stated that the provision of potable water is most topical for the Luhansk region. “Learning the relevant Kyiv and Odesa experience today we will be able to identify activities to improve the situation. And this should be improved through increased involvement of community resources”, he said.
Kyiv and Odesa oblast representatives presented models of the Fursa river purification and Velykoploske water conduit restoration in the respective regions. After a detailed discussion the participants recognised the sustainability of the models and looked into the possibility to implement them in the Luhansk oblast.
